Message from Michelle Folickman, Education Director

However your family celebrates and spells (c)hanuk(k)a(h), we wish you a very happy and healthy one!

8 Projects for 8 Nights of FUNnukkah @Home

1) Build a LEGO dreidel.

2) Create your family’s recipe and time capsule pages for the SSJS 75th anniversary commemoration:

3) Build a menorah out of rocks or pine cones and hex screw nuts.

4) Make latkes using your new SSJS potholder, Hanukkah cookie cutter, and recipe.

5) Play dreidel the traditional way, then come up with your own version. Share your new rules with us!

6) Make two no-sew blankets. Gift one to a family member and donate the other to a homeless shelter or an animal shelter. Instructions can be found here.

7) Make a dreidel out of marshmallows, Hershey kisses, pretzel sticks, and frosting.

8) Act out the story of Hanukkah using shadow puppets (since the holiday is about light) or make paper bag puppets. The story of Hanukkah can be found here.

Do you have other fun Hanukkah ideas or traditions? Share your Hanukkah photos with us on the Sunday School for Jewish Studies Facebook page!

Pictures Wanted!

WANTED: please send us a photo of your child(ren) in their Shalom@Home class! We want to see the magic on the other end of the screen—-The GoogleMeet screen shots aren’t ideal for PR purposes! Please send pictures to Michelle at SSJSNewton@gmail.com.

Shalom@Home Pickup Reminder

In talking with the teachers, it became abundantly clear that the two original supply pickups were not sufficient in most cases. A tremendous amount of preparation goes into each lesson, and teachers pivot their plans based on student interest, engagement, and questions. In support of helping the teachers create the most engaging and exciting classes, we have decided to add a third Shalom@Home supply pickup and will therefore shift the date of the second pickup.

New dates will be Sunday 12/6 from 8:15-8:45 and Sunday 2/28 from 8:15-8:45. (There will no longer be a January pickup date). We will be collecting completed recipe and time capsule pages on 12/6 and will have a special Hanukkah gift for your family as well.

Please make every effort to attend the supply pickup. As always, if you have any questions, do not hesitate to reach out! Thanks so much for your flexibility!
