Sunday School for
Dear SSJS community and High Holiday attendees,
With great sadness, we are sharing that after 76 years of providing independent Jewish education and High Holiday Services, The Sunday School for Jewish Studies (SSJS) will be closing its doors.
As you can imagine, the pandemic has caused a variety of hardships for many organizations, and we have worked passionately to avoid closing the school. This has been a difficult decision for us, and we have explored a variety of options to keep SSJS open. In the end, we feel that dedicating all of our resources to High Holiday services for the local unaffiliated Jewish community is the most meaningful way to preserve our legacy and fulfill our mission.
In partnership with CJP (Combined Jewish Philanthropies) and BJEP (Boston-area Jewish Education Program), unaffiliated families will still be able to experience the same SSJS High Holiday programing with Rabbi Jethro Berkman for years to come.
The many students and families who have benefited from the SSJS school programming over these past 76 years is a testament to the success of our organization. We are so proud of not only the students, but also the teachers, families, and volunteers who have tirelessly worked to make it happen. Our success would not have been possible without those who have so generously donated their time, efforts, and resources to SSJS over these many years. We appreciate all of the support and commitment that our community has given to The Sunday School for Jewish Studies.
BJEP, an independent Jewish Sunday School located at Brandeis University, will be administering our High Holiday services going forward. You may find information on the services at https://bjep.org/high-holidays-supported-by-ssjs/. In the meantime, please save the following dates:
